#1 Huntingdon To Square Off With #2 Agnes Scott In GSAC Tennis Championship Match

The 2009 Great South Athletic Conference women's tennis championship match will be a replay of the best match of the season as top-seeded Huntingdon will face off with second-ranked Agnes Scott.

Huntingdon advanced to the finals with a 5-1 victory over Spelman in Saturday's first match. The Jaguars surprised the GSAC regular season champs by claiming the #1 doubles point behind the play of sister combo Christina and Amanda McIntosh. However, the Hawks dominated singles play with Kristi McDaniel clinching the victory with a two-set win at #3 singles.

Agnes Scott rolled past Maryville 5-0, winning all three doubles points before Danielle Patton and Natalie Mayer cruised to wins at #6 and #4 singles, respectively.

In their only match of the season, the Lady Hawks rallied from an early deficit to capture a 5-4 victory over the Scotties in Montgomery, Ala. Agnes Scott won two of the three available doubles points at the start of the match, but Huntingdon's top four singles players battled their way back to help pick up the team victory.

The feature match of the championship will be between the top-ranked singles players, Esther Kaplan of Agnes Scott and Riley Prescott of Huntingdon, both of whom were named to the All-Conference team for #1 Singles. In the match played back on March 20, Prescott pulled out a hard fought victory over Kaplan in three sets, winning 6-0, 1-6, 6-2. However, in the #1 Doubles match up, Kaplan and her partner Natalie Mayer cruised to a relatively ease win over Prescott and Kayla Heetland, winning 8-3.
